The Hemlock rivet is a high strength, high clamp, structural breakstem rivet. It is available in steel or aluminum construction. The Hemlock rivet relies on a combination of excellent bulbing tail formation on the application blind side and radial expansion into the application hole to create an extremely strong joint.
The large blind side footprint creates a load bearing surface, which absorbs the force of setting the rivet. Otherwise the setting force, or clamp load, could spread into the application material and might damage the material. This makes the Hemlock rivet ideal for use in thin sheet, soft, brittle and low strength materials, as well as resulting in high resistance to pull-out loads. Radial expansion allows the rivet to provide a strong, vibration resistant joint and compensate for irregular, oversized, slotted or misaligned holes. Also, it can stop sheet movement in applications with non-standard holes.
The bulbing and expansion characteristics can only be controlled over a narrow range of material thickness and hole diameter. Therefore, the application hole size and grip range must meet the specified ranges to ensure proper installation and performance of the Hemlock rivet.
